Ryan Porchas is a violinist and educator and a graduate of California State University, Northridge (CSUN), where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance/Orchestral Strings. At CSUN, he studied under Dr. Lorenz Gamma, Head of Strings, as well as Roberto Cani, Concertmaster of the LA Opera, and Benjamin Jacobson, founder of the Calder Quartet. He has also worked with internationally renowned artists such as Stefan Jackiw, Nancy Zhou (Professor of Violin, San Francisco Conservatory), and Mark Kaplan (Professor of Violin, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music).
With over 20 years of performance experience, Ryan has appeared on distinguished stages including Carnegie Hall and Walt Disney Concert Hall. He currently serves as Concertmaster of the Calvary Chapel Chino Hills Orchestra and Choir, where he has led large-scale concerts for audiences of thousands. Ryan also performs regularly as a member of the Corona Symphony Orchestra, proudly representing his hometown of Corona, California.
As a passionate educator, Ryan maintains a private teaching studio where he has guided students toward notable achievements, including acceptance into university music programs, all-state orchestras, and honors ensembles on both the West and East Coasts.
Ryan earned his Certificate of Merit from the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) in 2017 and has been a certified instructor since the age of 17. He has developed a personalized curriculum that tailors instruction to each student’s experience—whether beginner, intermediate, or advanced.
A well-rounded pedagogue, Ryan is trained in major schools of violin technique, including the Franco-Belgian and Russian traditions, and draws inspiration from the methodologies of legendary violinists such as Ivan Galamian, Leopold Auer, and Demetrius Constantine Dounis.
