Course Description: The Overture Orchestra is RAA’s intermediate orchestral ensemble, designed for student musicians who are continuing to build their technical foundation, expand their ensemble experience, and develop greater confidence as performers. This ensemble provides a structured and engaging environment where students can refine their musicianship, strengthen performance skills, and grow as collaborative orchestral players.

Students will explore a diverse selection of orchestral repertoire while focusing on essential ensemble skills, including tone production, intonation, rhythm, sight-reading, musical expression, and responsive playing within a conducted ensemble. Through consistent rehearsal and performance preparation, students will develop the discipline, collaboration, and artistry necessary for continued growth as young musicians.

The Overture Orchestra is conducted by Ruth Noemy Wheeler.

Overture Orchestra is open to musicians with 2 or more years of experience, by audition only. If you are not placed in Overture, you will be recommended for a different RAA class!

Audition Materials:

• Prepared excerpts (click on your instrument below; prepare ALL listed excerpts)

• Prepare two (2) scales in as many octaves as you are comfortable

• You may be asked to sight-read at your audition

Attendance Policy

  • Attendance to rehearsals is mandatory. Up to 2 rehearsals can be missed per semester, excluding dress rehearsals and concerts. Exceptions may be granted in extenuating circumstances.
