Mariachi

Jovanni Monzon is a Teaching Artist at the Riverside Arts Academy, specializing in Mariachi. He is a dynamic mariachi musician and educator based in Southern California, renowned for his versatility as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist on guitar, vihuela, and guitarrón.

With over a decade of performance experience, Monzon has been an active member of Mariachi Azteca since 2015. He continues to perform with various regional ensembles at festivals, private events, and formal concert venues throughout Southern California.

A 2025 graduate of California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), Monzon earned a Bachelor of Music in Education. His musical training has been shaped under the mentorship of esteemed instructors Stuart Green, Angela Romero, and Barry McNaughton.

An advocate for music education, Monzon contributed to the CSUSB mariachi program, Mariachi Los Coyotes, where he led warm-ups, conducted sectional rehearsals, and co-directed repertoire alongside former instructor Dr. Angela Romero. He is currently developing an Armonía Studies book for mariachi, which originated as his senior project in Spring 2025. Since 2018, he has maintained a private teaching studio, nurturing students in guitar, voice, and traditional mariachi instruments.

Monzon’s recent performance highlights include a guest appearance with Mariachi Cultura Clásica alongside the Long Beach Symphony in 2024 for Carnival of the Animals, as well as a vocal performance with the LA Philharmonic in Home Alone in Concert and Deck the Halls under the direction of David Newman and Lesley Leighton.
